Frequently Asked Questions

REF scholarships are awarded on an individual basis, aligned with our Foundation's objectives each year. Scholars may receive up to $5,000 annually for middle school and up to $10,000 annually for high school and college.

With the numerous scholarship opportunities available for need-based students, REF is committed to assisting our scholars in exploring and securing additional funding whenever possible.

One of the primary goals of REF is to address anticipated funding gaps, ensuring that our College Scholars do not incur any educational-related debt. We strongly encourage each student applicant to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) as early as possible to secure financial aid for college or graduate school.

To qualify as a REF Scholar, you must either be currently enrolled or plan to enroll as a full-time, in-person student. Additionally, you must be a first-generation college student, eligible for a Pell Grant, and able to provide FAFSA documentation. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 is also required. You are ready to begin the application process if you meet these requirements.

Evelyn Rodriguez

Hello, my name is Evelyn Rodriguez. I want to express my gratitude to the Reda Educational Foundation for helping me pursue my professional career. As a first-generation student, I faced uncertainty about attending college due to a lack of resources. This absence often made me feel like I would never have the chance to earn a degree. I am fortunate to have two hard-working parents who, despite financial barriers, have motivated and pushed me to reach my goals.

The Reda Educational Foundation has played a crucial role in helping me achieve these dreams. Their generosity and belief in me have enabled me to pursue a career in nursing, allowing me the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives. I am incredibly thankful for the financial and emotional support provided by the Reda Educational Foundation, which I will utilize to earn my bachelor’s degree in nursing. In my future career, I will feel fulfilled by delivering exceptional care to every patient. I align well with REF’s values and uphold them daily, from the classroom to the clinical setting. I will continue to dedicate myself to doing the best work possible. I am forever grateful for the support and opportunities provided by REF and for the relief from financial struggles.

I am a Rockhurst High School graduate heading to UMKC, and I never would have thought I would go to the university at such a comfortable cost. It is all thanks to my college counselor, I got to know more about the REF program and its mission. With this program, I can prioritize my studies and be more engaged with the communities around me.

Participating in the REF program means being true to yourself. This means doing my best at every level, whether at college, doing extracurriculars, or at work. The REF program will bring that level of success and other opportunities to help me along my educational and professional journey.

The REF means so much for both my family and me as it relieves the financial burden of going to college. Furthermore, it helps with opening new opportunities that I never knew I could be a part of.

I am truly blessed to be given this opportunity.

Thank you to the Reda Educational Foundation and those who pay it forward!

REF believes in its candidates to uphold to their values, trustworthiness, and hard work with the help provided by our mentors. Pledging that once we have graduated, we will take time to be active members to help others as we have been helped. It is exciting to climb up a ladder one step at a time to a higher education level.

Hello, my name is Tharyn Lewis, and I am currently a junior nursing student at Pittsburg State University. The Reda Educational Foundation has helped me in more ways than I could ever imagine. Growing up with no financial support from parents, being put in the system, and moving out on my own at 17, I knew my future endeavors were going to be very difficult. Working through the hardships of college mentally, physically, and emotionally on my own has been a very difficult journey. However, enduring everything that I have is what has made me so resilient and determined to do well for myself. I could never put into words the gratitude I have for being part of the Reda Foundation and receiving all of their support.

The Reda Foundation not only helps support us students financially, but they also believe in us. Meeting the Reda brothers and being a part of this foundation has been one of the best things to happen to me. It has helped pave my way through these last years of college and has taken a tremendous amount of stress off of me. The Reda brothers are nothing but kind and have made me feel very welcome and comfortable to share my story with them.

Thank you is simply not enough to show my gratitude.

I recently graduated from Rockhurst High School.  I am extremely grateful for the opportunity that was presented to me.  I graduated a month ago and didn’t really know if I would be able to go to college, but given the Reda Educational Foundation and what they provided for my family and me, they were able to send me to school at a price that we could afford.  We are very appreciative.  Thank you so much.

My name is Shelby, and I am currently a senior nursing student at Pittsburg State University. I am a non-traditional college student who has two children and also works two jobs. Coming back to school was something I have always wanted to do, but the financial aspect has been a hurdle for me to overcome.

The Reda Foundation has given me the opportunity to continue my education and ease some of the stress around school and finances. This foundation truly has been such a great thing to happen to me and my family. I have felt so supported during my time with REF in terms of the financial support, the reassurance, and the amount of communication between us. I will graduate in just a few short months and, be able to give my kids a better life and finally finish my lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. I am so grateful for the Reda Foundation and the opportunity to be a part of this.

Hello my name is Maxine Dy and I’m a freshman. My classes this first semester are English, Spanish, Rooted in Sion and Christian Scriptures, Graphic Design, Algebra I, Biology, and Sion Seminar. I don’t really have a favorite class because it’s kinda hard to keep up or do the homework or figure out what to do and I’m trying to get used to this school.

In June, I was part of the leadership team in the Humann Scholar’s program. Here we plan fun activities for the students in the program and each week there is a theme. For example, the first week of the program was service week, where we volunteer at non-profit organizations everyday. Every Friday, we go on mini field trips. On the last day of the program, we went to the pool.

I’m very grateful for having this scholarship and getting the opportunity to study at Notre Dame de Sion high school. I work hard to maintain my grades and GPA. This scholarship helps my parents by allowing me to go to a good school.

My name is Evelyn Nieves Ramirez and to me the Reda Educational Foundation means having the opportunity to open doors that otherwise would have been closed for me to a hopeful future. Growing up with a single mother I knew from an early age that college would be a financial struggle for our family. Not having the right resources and counseling made it difficult to imagine I would one day assist college. I am thankful to have met Mr. Reda not only for his generosity but for believing in me and my future accomplishments thru the help of REF.

REF believes in its candidates to uphold to their values, trustworthiness, and hard work with the help provided by our mentors. Pledging that once we have graduated, we will take time to be active members to help others as we have been helped. It is exciting to climb up a ladder one step at a time to a higher education level.

I first heard about the REF through my school counselor, and I am so glad that I did! I filled out the form detailing my situation and submitted it, very simple. I really admire what they stand for and the continued support they will show me throughout my college journey. Because of the REF I will have much more peace of mind to focus on academics and go the extra lengths during my time at University without being anxious about huge debts in my future.

Receiving the Reda Educational Foundation scholarship will help me a ton!

It will help take a lot of weight off my Mom’s shoulders, so I can graduate from college without debt.

The REF interview was very professional and, I really liked they treated me as an adult.
